Use of Fireworks for
2009
1.
Due to
the compounding effect of the previous years, it is highly recommended that
fireworks used within the municipal boundaries, be used in areas that are paved
or barren or that have a readily accessible source of water. The citizens of Farmington are asked this
recommendation in order to help preserve our City and not endanger the safety
of our fellow citizens and their property.
2. The following fireworks are prohibited within the municipal boundaries of Farmington:
Aerial devices:
a.
Aerial spinners
b.
Helicopters
c.
Mines
d.
Missile-type rockets
e.
Roman candles
f.
Shells
g.
Stick-type rockets; and
h.
Stick-type rockets
having a tube less than a one-quarter-inch inside diameter
Ground audible devices:
a. Chasers;
and
b. Firecrackers
3. All prohibited fireworks will be confiscated
by Farmington Police Department and Farmington Fire Department. Citations of up to $500.00 may be
issued for the use of prohibited fireworks by City Ordinance 98-1074.
4. In order to help you and your family have a safe 4th of July holiday, the Farmington Fire Department offers the following safety tips:
ALWAYS LIGHT FIREWORKS ON PAVED OR BARREN GROUND
ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS
ALWAYS IGNITE FIREWORKS OUTSIDE
ALWAYS HAVE A READILY ACCESSIBLE WATER SOURCE
ALWAYS LIGHT ONE FIREWORK AT A TIME
ALWAYS STORE FIREWORKS IN A COOL DRY PLACE
ALWAYS DISPOSE OF FIREWORKS PROPERLY
NEVER RE-IGNITE MALFUNCTIONING FIREWORKS
NEVER LET SMALL CHILDREN HANDLE FIREWORKS
NEVER TRY TO MAKE YOUR OWN FIREWORKS
NEVER THROW FIREWORKS AT ANOTHER PERSON
NEVER SHOOT FIREWORKS IN METAL OR GLASS CONTAINERS
SOME FIREWORKS SOLD IN THE COUNTY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE USED
IN THE CITY LIMITS OF FARMINGTON. DO NOT
USE FIREWORKS THAT ARE PROHIBITED.
